The
home of Louis-Auguste Cézanne, 55 Cours Mirabeau
This address is that of the hat shop belonging to François
Carbonnel and his wife Marie Aubert, probably related to
Anne-Elizabeth Aubert.
After having worked in the wool merchants Aixois factory,
Louis-Auguste Cézanne Ieft for Paris to learn the
hatter's trade.
Upon his return in 1825, he worked in the Carbonnel workshop
and met Anne-Elizabeth Aubert who worked in the hat making
industry at the time. He went into partnership with Coupin
to take over the hat shop on the Cours Mirabeau above which
he lived. After the birth of Paul, Anne-Elizabeth Aubert
settled with her new-born in the home of the father of her
child. It was there that Marie Cézanne was born,
on the 4th July 1841.
